Charles L. Schleifer

March 8, 1929 — December 28, 2022

Charles L. "Chas" Schleifer, 93, of North Lawrence, Ohio, previously of East McKeesport, Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022, surrounded and embraced by his loving family. Chas was born in North Braddock, PA on March 8, 1929. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Amelia “Millie” (Filicky) Schleifer, father Charles T. Schleifer, mother Mildred (Flygar) Schleifer, brother Ken and sister-in-law Dolly Schleifer, sister Sarah and brother-in-law Bill Shaffer, son-in-law Mick Rosenbayer, and grandson Zachary Starrett. Chas wore multiple hats in his life, but retired as a plant guard from Westinghouse Electric in 1989. He also spent many years as a part time police officer and council member in the Borough of East McKeesport. An avid race fan, he attended the Daytona 500 race annually since 1972, as well as many other NASCAR races around the country. He enjoyed golfing, camping and traveling, having visited all the 50 states in America, and several foreign countries. Chas and Millie loved dancing and were actively involved in the ballroom dance community for many years. Chas, known lovingly as “Pap” to his grandchildren, reveled in being a grandfather and great grandfather. In his later years, Chas relocated to the family property in Ohio and enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by his family, riding his tractor, cutting the grass, and relaxing in his gazebo with an occasional Manhattan. Chas is survived by two sons, Charles “Chuck” Schleifer of North Lawrence, OH; and Gary (Kathleen) Schleifer of Navarre, OH; four daughters, Donna (Bob) Ferrainolo of East McKeesport, PA; Carole Simile (Chet Joseph) of New Stanton, PA; Mariann (the late Mick) Rosenbayger of East McKeesport, PA; and Lynne (Gery) Rosenbayger of North Versailles, PA; and sister, Sharon (Joe) Reeher of Forest Hills, PA. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
