Dorothy J. “Holly” Serafin, age 92 of White Oak, died Tuesday, August 1, 2017. She was born in Cavittsville on August 7, 1924, the daughter of the late Chalmers and Rebecca George Holliday and the wife of the late Theodore “Whitey” Serafin. She had a forty-year career as a registered nurse at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Lawrenceville, Columbia Hospital in Wilkinsburg, then Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville where she retired. She was a member and former president of the Friendship Club in Trafford and a US Army Nurse Cadet during WWII while attending nursing school. She is survived by daughters, Suzanne (David) Evanchak of White Oak, Mary Jeanne (Nikolyn Roumm) Serafin of Squirrel Hill; son, James (Maureen) Serafin of North Huntingdon; grandchildren, Leanne (Ron) Talik; Ryan Evanchak; Kristin (Lance) Matthews; Kaitlin (Justin) Stanley; 4 great-grandchildren; and nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by great-grandson, Connor; brother, Richard Holliday; and sister in law, Virginia Serafin. Friends and family will be received on Thursday August 3rd from 6-8 pm and on Friday August 4th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Striffler’s of White Oak Cremation & Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor, 412-678-6177). Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday August 5th at 9:30am at Immaculate Conception Church, 308 2nd Street, Irwin, PA 15642, with Fr. Pepe Pimental officiating.
