Eleanor T. Casciato, age 89, of White Oak, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023. Eleanor was born on February 15, 1933 and raised in McKeesport’s Tenth Ward. She is the daughter of the late Stephen V. Tomko and Mary V. Fedasz Tomko. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ralph Casciato. A fiercely devoted mother and grandmother, she is also survived by sons, Chris (Lisa) Casciato of Manhattan, New York; Greg Casciato of Port Chester, New York; and grandchildren, Jack; Kate; Will; James; and Teddy Casciato. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Stephen T. Tomko.
After graduating from McKeesport High School and Pennsylvania State University, where she was a member of the Theta Phi Alpha Sorority, Eleanor began working as a teacher for the McKeesport Area School District. There, she shaped the minds of first grade students for thirty years. Later, she worked in the Allegheny County Treasurer’s Office.
Eleanor was active in many organizations. She was the long-time Recording Secretary for McKeesport Sokol Gymnastic Lodge #46; a Past President of the McKeesport College Club; and a PA Democratic State Committee member. Eleanor was passionate about the arts, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Extremely generous, she always put the needs of others ahead of her own.
Family and friends will gather on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Monday, January 16, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of God Parish, St. Angela Merici Church, 1640 Fawcett Avenue, White Oak, PA 15131. Entombment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
