Evelyn Beatrice (Welcker) Barrett, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, in Johnson City, TN. Born on July 26, 1926, in the city of McKeesport, PA, and she was a source of kindness, hospitality and faith for all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In her younger years she enjoyed hosting parties for her friends, family and co-workers both in White Oak and at the cabin in the mountains of Ligonier.
She is survived by her children, Henry Keith (wife Joani) of Caddo Mills, TX; Gary Edward of Houston, TX; Brian Thomas (wife Laurie) of Valencia, CA; Robert Barrett (wife Mary) of Johnson City, TN; daughter-in-law Kathleen of Centerville, OH; grandchildren Angela Gilpin, spouse Kyle, of Rockwall, TX, with their children Grayson, Keaton, and Nolan; Mario Barrett, spouse Tina, of Austin, TX, with their children Reagan, Madison, and Grant; Rosalyn Kelly, spouse Bryan, of Caddo Mills, TX, with their children Grace, and Sam Marie of Centerville, OH; Angie, spouse Kevin, of Royal Oak, MI; Rob of Columbus, OH; Daniel Barrett of San Luis Obispo, CA; Jack Barrett of Valencia, CA; Andrew Barrett of Santa Clara, CA; Patrick Barrett of Raleigh, NC; Matthew Barrett, spouse Stephanie, of Gulf Shores, AL; Steven Barrett, spouse Kristine, of Telford, TN with their children Evelyn, Sam and Leo; and Anne Barrett of Liberty Hill, TX. She is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Henry Willis Barrett; her 2nd son David Kirk (wife Kathleen); and all her siblings, Gertude Maran, Eileen Morsey, Howard Welcker, and Eddie Welcker.
She resided at 2824 Capitol St. for most of her adult life before moving to Johnson City, TN, for her last 3 years. She attended St. Peters Girls High School before marrying Henry after the war and beginning to raise her cherished family. She was active in the White Oak Women’s League, St. Angela Merici Church and Serra Catholic High school. In 1966, she began working as a secretary for St. Angela School and then as an assistant for the Penn State Greater Allegheny Campus in McKeesport, PA.
Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Evelyn’s memory on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412 678 6177). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of God Parish, St. Angela Merici Church, 2701 Kelly Street, White Oak, PA 15131. A burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
