He was raised in Farmington, PA where he attended a one room school, and then Masontown where he graduated from high school. After graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he served in the Korean War. Upon his return, he attended Penn State University and moved to the McKeesport/White Oak area. In 1956, he served as the Director of Business Operations at the Penn State McKeesport Center where classes were conducted at that time in a school located in Dravosburg, PA. As property was acquired by Penn State at the present location near Renzie Park, he took great pride in overseeing the construction, building, development, and business of the entire campus until his retirement in 1988. He volunteered for 18 years with the Allegheny County Area on Aging serving as an ombudsman visiting nursing homes.
