John Robert Greenaway, age 66, of Versailles Boro, PA, formerly of White Oak, Mt. Lebanon and Shippenville, PA died on March 24, 2024. He was the son of the late William Leo and Helen L. Black Greenaway. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Matthew J. Greenaway who passed away on March 24, 2019.
John was an Eagle Scout and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served as a firefighter in Arizona and Alaska. He was employed as a paramedic for various ambulance services in both Allegheny and Clarion Counties. He was also a Fire Fighter/Paramedic for the Fire Department of North Versailles.
John is survived by his siblings, Mary G. Weaver of Murrysville, PA; Virginia Greenaway of Pittsburgh, PA; William J (Donna Tocco) Greenaway of Buckeye, AZ; nephews, Joseph W. Weaver; Sean M. (Cindy) Weaver; William (Pachee) Greenaway; niece, Kara Greenaway; a great niece and 2 great nephews; his former wife, Patricia McCaffery Greenaway of Mt. Lebanon; and girlfriend, Mary Gricar and family of McKeesport.
Family and friends will gather on Monday, April 1, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until a blessing service at 8:30 p.m. at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177). Burial with military honors will take place Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Rd, Bridgeville, PA 15017.
