John Robert Sims, Jr., age 76, of White Oak, died on Monday, October 17, 2022. He was born in Pittsburgh on December 21, 1945 and is the son of the late John Robert, Sr. and Gay Marie Hessenmueller Sims. He proudly served in the United States Navy and was stationed on the same submarine that is at the Carnegie Science Center. After serving in the military, John was employed at the Hilton in downtown Pittsburgh, he worked in sales for many years, He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a masters in sociology. He then taught at various colleges throughout the area including the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Duquesne, La Roche University, and the Community College of Allegheny County. In 1998 he founded the Single and Custodial Father’s Network and continued there until its closing when he retired in 2005. He provided help to many, many people throughout the years.
He is survived by his children, Jana M. Ward of Jefferson Hills; Jill (Michael) McKee of Sewickley; Brian Robert Sims of Meadville, PA; Rebekah (Nick) Sims of White Oak; grandchildren, Ashton M. Grusofsky; Faith N. Grusofsky; Hannah McKee; Jackson Baker; Hazel Sims; great-grandchildren, Eliza Grusofsky; Estella Grusofsky; brother, Frank G. Sims of Murrysville; nephew, Jason Sims; and niece; Jennifer Sims.
Family and friends will gather at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177) on Friday, October 21, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. when a celebration of his life will begin.
