Robert G. Whirl, age 75 of Glassport, died Saturday, May 5, 2018. He was born March 8, 1943 in Glassport, the son of the late Robert Elton and Ruth L. Cox Whirl. Robert served in the Army from 1965 until 1971 during the Vietnam Era. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Medal and Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster) and two Overseas Service Bars. He received his Bachelors Degree from The Virginia Military Institute, a Master of Divinity from the Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary, a Juris Doctor from the Duquesne University School of Law, and his Ph. D. from Duquesne University School of Theology. In addition to working as an administrator at the Utah Attorney General’s office, Robert was an Episcopal priest, a published author, a professor of criminal justice, and served in many capacities in community service. He was a member of many notable organizations including the American Mensa, Ltd., Phi Delta Phi Law Fraternity, Utah Bar Association, Glassport American Legion, VFW, Scottish Rite & Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and the National Rifle Assoc. He is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Thomas) Carrillo of Palo Alto, CA and Tracy Whirl of Aurora, CO; grandchildren Katherine and William. Services were held with military honors at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Wednesday, May 9, 2018.
